The new construction project will allow to change the approach to senior care

The Ministry of Welfare

A new building project for the construction of an environmentally friendly and fully compliant with accessibility standards two-apartment one-story wooden panel building is available in the construction information system portal bis.gov.lv.

Such a building is intended to provide a long-term care service close to a family environment for people of retirement age. Seniors will be able to receive care while living in small groups in a comfortable, cozy environment adapted to their needs. To be able to maintain a lifestyle as close as possible to a family environment, allowing you to maintain control over your life, for example, everyone's usual waking, sleeping, eating, daily activities, and other habits, the premises have individual bedrooms, which are adjacent to the shared living room and kitchen.

The building project has been developed so that municipalities and other service providers have the opportunity to quickly, without spending time and financial resources on building design, create new, fully compliant with modern standards care service provision places.

In the second quarter of 2023, local governments will be invited to apply in an open selection of project submissions to create a family-friendly care service infrastructure in their administrative territory using funding from the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Mechanism and this typical construction project. At the same time, the project can be used by anyone who wants to develop high-quality community-based, and family-friendly care services.

The building project was created within the European Union Recovery and Resilience Mechanism Plan event "Persistence and continuity of long-term social care service: development of new care service providers closer to the family environment for persons of retirement age", in which the Ministry of Welfare, in cooperation with local governments, non-governmental organizations and representatives of social service providers, developed requirements for a family-friendly care service for people of retirement age and instructed VSIA "Šampētera nams" to develop a construction project for the building where these services will be provided.
