Ministry of the Interior

On August 13, 2024, in Mucenieki, Ropaži Municipality, and on August 18, in Liepna, Alūksne Municipality, the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (hereafter referred to as the OCMA) organized integration and educational events involving asylum seekers residing in asylum seeker accommodation centers and local residents.

These events featured friendly sports games and a communal bread-baking activity. The tradition of baking bread is universal and inspires people from different walks of life and origins to come together.

"A quicker and fuller understanding of Latvia and its people, as well as a responsible and responsive attitude towards the requirements stipulated by law, ensures more successful cooperation during the consideration of asylum applications. Joint events promote a greater understanding of the conditions and customs that must be observed in Latvia," emphasizes Maira Roze, the head of the OCMA.

The events in Mucenieki and Liepna were part of the OCMA's information campaign "Humanity. Responsiveness. Responsibility." The aim of the campaign is to promote public understanding of the asylum process in Latvia, as well as to inform and educate asylum seekers about their duties and rights during the asylum procedure.
