"The geopolitical situation's impact on rising energy resource prices in recent years has encouraged each of us to review daily habits and consider changing them to reduce various energy consumption. Even the smallest step towards this goal is commendable, but significant savings can only come from large-scale actions, including a complete renovation of buildings, construction of new high energy efficiency class buildings, or switching to alternative energy sources for self-consumption. Each year, in the competition, we see outstanding examples – both in achieved indicators and thus savings, as well as the people – outstanding project implementers, leaders, and inspirers, patriots of our land. The Ministry of Economics already offers several support programs to increase energy efficiency in buildings of various sectors and will continue to develop initiatives to promote housing accessibility throughout Latvia," emphasizes Edmunds Valantis, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economics.

The Ministry of Economics' Sympathy Award for perseverance and investment in project implementation, as well as initiatives to popularize building energy efficiency, was awarded to the association "Vidrižu 4". The EM Sympathy Award was also received by the Preiļi Municipality Children and Youth Sports School for a high-quality building renovation project and achieved high energy efficiency indicators, as well as architect Iveta Zalmane from SIA “Artemi” for a significant investment in multi-apartment building renovation and achieved high energy efficiency indicators.

"It is a genuine pleasure to see determined project implementers among the winners who have dared to implement their ideas, thinking about a greener, nature-friendly, and sustainable home or public building renovation or construction. It's particularly delightful to see residents' desire to live in a well-organized urban environment. The success stories of competition participants provide an opportunity for the development of equivalent projects in other municipalities, thereby increasing public awareness of the role of energy efficiency in our daily lives," says Kaspars Melnis, Minister of Climate and Energy.

The annual "Climate Friend" award was granted by the Ministry of Climate and Energy to Carnikava Primary School, whose renovation technologies and solutions serve as an example of promoting the use of Latvia's natural riches – wood and wood products – and significantly save energy in public buildings, thereby creating opportunities for the development of equivalent projects in other municipalities and raising public awareness of the role of energy efficiency in our daily lives.

The competition "Most Energy-Efficient Building in Latvia 2023" in practice shows how the views of Latvian society on energy efficiency are changing, how the best examples are recognized, and how energy-saving measures are implemented. The good practices of the competition promote its adoption. The competition has been taking place for 13 years, and I wish it many more years!”, acknowledges ECCE Vice-President, Deputy Chairwoman of the Board of the Latvian Association of Civil Engineers, Helēna Endriksone.

This year, the association “Vidrižu 4” and the Children's Support Center “Dzintari” in Liepāja, Salmu Street 53, received the jury's appreciation for their project management - an outstanding example of sustainable thinking, promoting not only resource saving but also creating a comfortable and well-maintained environment.

In the online voting, the most votes – 674 votes – and thus the competition's Sympathy Award was received by Carnikava Primary School.
