On May 1, 2024, the State Police, in cooperation with the Information Center of the Ministry of the Interior, began implementing the Internal Security Fund 2021-2027 project No. VP/IDF/2024/1 "Promotion of support for victims of crime - especially vulnerable victims (especially children) within the framework of criminal proceedings".
As the project title suggests, its main goal is to significantly strengthen the institutional capacity to provide the best possible support and assistance to minor victims of crime and particularly vulnerable persons - children in criminal proceedings. Thus, it will be ensured that the interests of minor victims are protected.
The project provides for the equipment of interrogation rooms for minor victims of crime and especially vulnerable persons with technical means for sound and image recording. In turn, for State Police precincts where it is not possible to create such special interrogation rooms, it is planned to purchase mobile sound and image recording equipment. At the same time, methodological materials for interviewing persons will be developed during the project, and State Police officers will be provided with training.
The total funding for the project No. VP/IDF/2024/1 "Promotion of support for victims of crime - especially vulnerable victims (especially children) within the framework of criminal proceedings" is 559,979 euros, of which the Internal Security Fund financing is 419,984 euros, and the state budget financing is 139,995 euros. Its implementation period is from 01.05.2024. to 30.09.2026.
The project is being implemented within the framework of the 2021-2027 planning period of the Internal Security Fund, the managing authority for which in Latvia is the Ministry of the Interior.
